Business Controller

32-38 hours per week

The Royal Dutch Equestrian Sports Federation (KNHS) is one of the largest and most sportingly successful sports associations in the Netherlands. We represent the interests of our affiliated sports providers and members, so that they can practice equestrian sports as best as possible. Our mission is that as many people as possible in the Netherlands can ride horses. The KNHS is located at the National Equestrian Center in Ermelo and currently employs 75 (FTE) employees. The organization is in a phase of further professionalization and strategic development.

What are we looking for?

As a Business Controller you are a strategic sparring partner for directors and management. You provide guiding financial insights that contribute to administrative decision-making and to the realization of the KNHS’s multi-year strategy.

You operate at the intersection of strategy, finance and organizational development. You look ahead, identify opportunities and risks in a timely manner and translate these into concrete scenarios and action perspectives. In your role you make an active contribution to strengthening the financial management, the planning and control cycle and the strategic positioning of the KNHS.

Your responsibilities

  1. Strategic financial advice to management, MT and department management.
  2. Developing and maintaining the multi-year budget, forecasts and scenario analyses.
  3. Responsible for timely, reliable and relevant management information.
  4. Analyzing financial and non-financial performance in relation to strategic goals.
  5. Guiding departments in drawing up business cases, annual plans and investment proposals.
  6. Monitoring the coherence between strategy, ambitions, resources and realization.
  7. Initiating and supporting organization-wide improvements within planning & control, AO/IC and information provision.
  8. Participation in strategic and organization-wide projects, in collaboration with finance and ICT.

Your profile

You are analytically strong and combine strategic insight with administrative sensitivity. You oversee complex issues, know how to distinguish between main and secondary issues and communicate clearly and convincingly. You feel at home in an organization with social impact and enjoy working with professionals from different disciplines.

You are a solid discussion partner at all levels and know how to translate financial insights into understandable and strategically relevant advice.

What do you bring?

Must haves

  1. Completed higher vocational or university education in business, financial or economics.
  2. 3–6 years of recent and relevant work experience as a Business Controller or similar, or the potential to develop quickly in this role.
  3. Experience with strategic financial management and advice.
  4. Strong analytical skills and conceptual thinking.
  5. Excellent communication skills in Dutch (English is an advantage).

Nice if you bring

  1. Experience in an administrative or politically sensitive environment (e.g. non-profit, government or sports).
  2. Knowledge of BI tools, ERP systems, AI and advanced Excel skills.
  3. Affinity with sports or equestrian sports.

What does the KNHS do?
KNHS stands for the Royal Dutch Equestrian Sports Federation. We are the umbrella equestrian union in the Netherlands. The KNHS wants you to be able to ride with your horse with pleasure. Horse welfare, safety and integrity of the sport are our most important spearheads. We are there to help you with this. With expert advice, help when you need it and with different courses.

If you are a member of the KNHS, you can learn to ride a horse from qualified instructors at more than 250 FNRS-Maneges and 1,000 KNHS associations. You can ride competitions at any desired level where you are assessed by expert KNHS jury members. Every year we organize around 6,000 competitions, so plenty of choice!

The well -being of the horses is always central in our sport. We take care of research, knowledge, innovation, information, regulations and enforcement for horse -friendly equestrian sport.

We stand up for your interests
The KNHS represents 140,000 horse athletes. To ensure that you and your horse can practice the sport as well as possible, we stand up for your interests in addition to organizing the sport. This includes improving horse welfare, promoting equestrian sport, creating support for equestrian sport in politics and society, keeping open rider and men’s paths and road safety.
